The Australasian Begg Society of Orthodontists under the guidance of Dr Simon Freezer and Dr Mark Leedham AM established a volunteer orthodontic service treating cleft lip and palate patients in 2016.
Since then teams of orthodontists involving experienced clinicians and post graduate orthodontic students from the University of Adelaide have travelled every 2 months to provide continuing care.
Orthodontic Treatment
The principal treatment goal is to align the dental arches, for both functional (speech, eating, cleaning) and cosmetic purposes. TP Orthodontics generously support the programme by the donation of brackets and archwires, AB Orthodontics have donated instruments and 3M Unitek have supplied a new Luminex curing light. We have ongoing support from American Orthodontics and Dental Axess, and Angel Align have supported the project with aligners and retainers. The Royal Australian Navy, and Jape Company (NT) have transported equipment including a dental chair, steriliser, and other supplies.
The donation of a Trios intra-oral scanner has facilitated an increased scope of treatment.
The donation of practice management software by TopsOrtho has assisted the management of patients and their care. This has enabled comprehensive record keeping.
