Carlos Flores-Mir — Edmonton, Canada

Born and formally educated (BSc, MSc, DSc - Specialty in Orthodontics) in Lima, Peru. He moved to Canada in 2002 to complete a postdoctoral fellowship and has stayed in Edmonton since then. Currently he is Professor and head of the Division of Orthodontics at the University of Alberta and has a part-time extramural private practice in Edmonton, Alberta. He has more than 250 published peer-reviewed articles and has given over fifty international presentations on clinical orthodontics topics and evidence-based clinical decisions.
Björn Ludwig — Traben-Trarbach, Germany

Dr. Björn Ludwig maintains a private orthodontic practice in Traben-Trarbach, Germany. He is Assistant Professor at the University of Homburg/Saar, Department of Orthodontics. His focus of research work is skelettal anchorage and 3D imaging.
He has published more than 200 peer reviewed clinical and scientific articles, and is editor of three books. He is editor in chief of the Quintessenz publication “Kieferorthopädie” (Orthodontics). He is also co-editor of the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics.
He is active member of the Angle Society of Europe and serves in the council of the German board of Orthodontics. He is the current president of the European Begg Society.
Brent Allan — Perth Australia

Dr Allan graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 1982. He gained his Masters in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Western Australia in 1991. He has Fellowships in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from England, Ireland and Australia.
His surgical training took place in Australia, the UK and USA. Dr Allan is currently working as a Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in private practice. His previous international appointments include Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Washington, Seattle. His previous national appointments include Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Princess Margaret Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Fremantle Hospital. Dr Allan is currently Head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Department at St John of God Hospital, Subiaco.
His areas of surgical special interest include advanced osseointegrated implant techniques, correction of dentofacial deformity and maxillofacial reconstruction. Dr Allan has presented lectures and surgical training programmes and his literature contributions include scientific articles and text book chapters.
Don Gilchrist — Hobart, Australia
Associate Professor Don Gilchrist has had an eclectic dental career. After graduating with distinction in 1969 he served 2 years as a Dental Officer with the Army in Australia during the Vietnam War. Following discharge he spent 2 years in full time Maxillo-Facial surgical training in the UK, NSW and South Australia.
Surgery and Don came to a mutually agreeable parting of the ways. Gaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 1976. He commenced orthodontic specialist training in Adelaide gaining his Masters degree in 1979. Don was appointed staff specialist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. In 1981 Don entered private specialist practice in Adelaide. In 1990 an opportunity presented itself and Don and his wife Robyn decided to move to Queensland. To cut a long story short they moved from Adelaide to Cairns the long way via the Panama Canal aboard their yacht “Stylopora”. For seven years they went where the wind and their enthusiasms took them. They returned regularly to Australia to catch up with family as well as maintaining their professional skills with part-time and locum work.
Always a keen yachtsman Don has represented Australia internationally at two world championships, placing 6th in Durban, South Africa in 1979.
Don has written more than 60 feature articles for national special interest magazines and wrote a book “Here be Dragons” about their adventures sailing around the world. Here be Dragons was published by Tidbinbilla in 2001.
Don returned to private specialist practice in Cairns in 2000 and the role of Visiting Dental Specialist to Queensland Health, Cairns Oral Health Services.
Don was an inaugural member of the Expert Consultative Group setting up a specialist orthodontic training program at JCU. In 2014 Don handed over his private practice, devoting the time released to the Orthodontic D Clin Dent at JCU. In recognition of this greater role Don was appointed Adjunct Associate Professor (clinical).
For the last 3 years he has worked on a regular part-time basis with Paul Healy in Hobart, and more recently as an examiner for ADC and as an expert witness in Dento-Legal matters.
Raymond Lam — Perth, WA
BDSc, University of Western Australia — 2nd Year Orthodontic Registrar
Raymond was born in Christmas Island, Australia. He is currently a second-year orthodontic registrar at the University of Western Australia (UWA). He spent all is primary and secondary schooling in the country town of Bunbury. He completed his Bachelor of Dental Science at UWA from 2004-2008. He then spent the next 8 years in private practice as a general dentist working both in the public and private setting. Sometime during his practice as a general dentist, Ray fell in love with orthodontics. He became increasingly intrigued in the science of managing malocclusions and always looked forward to seeing his patients after their time with the orthodontist. Witnessing the fruits of orthodontics and the satisfaction from his patients faces was an uplifting experience Ray never felt with any other discipline. This resulted in Ray applying for orthodontics and he has never looked back. Apart from work, Ray likes playing badminton, computer games and spending time with his family and friends. He is happily married to Kim and they have two young children in Leo and Lily.
John Michele “Mike” Razza — Perth, Australia

After completing undergraduate studies at Sam Houston State University, Mike Razza earned his D.D.S. from Baylor College of Dentistry. He later went on to receive his Certificate in Orthodontics from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry. Mike is currently an Associate Professor - University of Western Australia and in part-time private Practice – at “The Orthodontists” Booragoon, Subiaco and Broome. Mike is a Certified Board Member of the Australasian Orthodontic Board.
A frequent lecturer within the profession and to dental and postgraduate students, Mike is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Australian Society of Orthodontists, Angle Orthodontic Society, International College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy, World Federation of Orthodontists and Australian Society of Orthodontists and Delta Sigma Delta. Mike was Federal ASO President from 2010-2012, served on ASO Federal Council for nearly 10 years and as President of the ASO WA Branch. Mike is the current Chair of the ASO Education Committee. Mike received the ASO Distinguished Service award in 2014 and ASO Honorary Life membership in 2017.
Jeff Swann — Darwin, Australia

Jeff Swann lives in Darwin, NT and has had a specialist practice in Orthodontics for 29 years. He is a past President of ADA NT (3 times). He has been a federal Councillor of the ADA Inc for 12 years and is a member of ASO, AAO, WFO, ADA, ABSO. He is a provider of Orthodontic services to Timor Leste as part of the ABSO Cleft Lip and Palate Project. He is also a past President of the Rotary Club of Darwin.
Chris Wholley — Perth, Australia
Consultant Orthodontist, BDSc, MDSc, Clin Dip Dent, FRACDS FICD
Chris Wholley is a Consultant Orthodontist to the Craniofacial Unit and Cleft Lip Palate Unit at tertiary Children’s Hospital in Perth since 2007. He commenced private orthodontic practice in 2002 and currently has a blended private and hospital based practice.
He graduated Melbourne University’s Orthodontic program chaired by Prof Michael Woods in 2001. Before this his UWA Dental Undergraduate final year was 1990 and became a Fellow by examination RACDS in 1995. He became a Fellow of International College of Dentists in 2018.
He was an undergraduate Orthodontic clinical tutor 2002-06. He has presented at state, national and international meetings, university departments and hospitals and has worked on various publications and joint research projects related to facial appearance.
Heinz Winsauer — Bregenz, Austria
Dr Winsauer obtained his degree in general medicine in 1980 at Innsbruck University, followed by four-year clinical training in general medicine and in intensive care. From 1985 he continued at the Dental University in Innsbruck and subsequently received his three-year orthodontic training. Since 1990 he has maintained a private practice in Bregenz, Austria. Dr Winsauer is a part-time instructor at the Department of Orthodontics University of Graz, Austria, and at the Universities of Bern and Geneva, Switzerland.
In 1998 he was the first Austrian orthodontist in private office to pass the European Board examination, since when he has been an active member of the European Orthodontic Society. Dr Winsauer is author or co-author of 15 peer reviewed publications and of four orthodontic textbook chapters. He has given numerous international lectures and holds eight international orthodontic patents.
He has undertaken scientific research at the Dental University of Graz and the International University of Catalunya, Spain. His main research interests are: maxillary expansion in adults without surgical assistance (moment/force quantification), orthodontic treatment with bone-borne anchorage and mandibular midline distraction osteogenesis.
